| In a Spanish guitar building workshop,
the "maestro" is not only in charge of the design of the instruments produced,
but also oversees all construction processes and may even sign instruments
considered to be of exceptional quality. It has been this way every
since Jose Ramirez began, in 1870, his apprenticeship in the
studio of maestro Franciso González.
An apprentice luthier who wishes to become an
"official" has to present to his maestro a guitar both designed and constructed
by his own hand. If the quality of construction, finish and
sound is up to the maestro's standards, only then will the
apprentice accede to the category of "official". Until the middle
of the last century, a degree was obtained by the presentation of perfectly
constructed guitar before a competent court of the Union of Violeros.
Instruments with the Ramirez label are still living
up to the high standards set by Jose Ramirez I over one hundred years ago.
The most popular model by far in the current Ramirez line is the Model
4E which features a solid bookmatched Western Red cedar top, solid
premium Indian rosewood back & sides, ebony reinforced Spanish
cedar neck, ebony fingerboard and a true Spanish neck-to-body construction.
The Ramirez Model 4E is consistently one of the most expressive and powerful
concert classical guitars in our stock! |
