Wildwood Banjos : Artist Black Walnut

American Black Walnut trees are indigenous to Texas and can grow up to 80 feet in height. This hardwood has a very appealing deep rich brown colour that is enhanced when a finish is applied.

Our latest ' Artist ' model from Wildwood banjos not only features this rare American wood, but has the most figured burled piece used to fabricate the resonator! What a SPECTACULAR example!!!

This is the very first Walnut Artist that we have received from Wildwood and it definitely won't be the last. What a brilliant sounding banjo!!! Mark Platin seems to be able to get good cutting power out of his banjos without sounding strident or harsh and this particular instrument will definitely cut in any situation!

Wildwood Banjos : Artist Custom Mahogany

We are getting more and more requests from Bluegrass players for mahogany banjos. A well set up banjo with mahogany neck and resonator can project and cut just as well as a maple instrument, but have a slightly less strident attack transient as well as a smoother overall tonality. Mahogany has an undeserved reputation for being slightly 'muffled' in tone, but professional players know that a mahogany neck & resonator on a quality pot assembly that is properly set up can shear off a bit of that raspy high end and leave a banjo that is pleasing, clear and POWERFUL!
