S/N: EA-5525, built during 1939 at the Gibson plant on Parsons Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Gibson L-7 appeared in 1932 as a 16 inch wide archtop, but by 1934 it grew to its final size of 17 inches and has been a standard guitar for jazz and big band players.
This Gibson L-7 is in its original natural finish and has an X-braced top, found in the 1935 to 1939 models. The top is solid spruce, the back and sides are solid maple. The neck is mahogany with a bound rosewood fingerboard, and it has lovely 'picture frame' position markers. It has been refretted and there is moderate to heavy fret wear, particularly in the lower positions. It's missing its pickguard, the tailpiece has been changed, and over the years various pickups have been attached so there are some marks and filled holes on the top. Long ago, wear on the back of the neck was repaired with a faux wood material. However, it plays well and has a great sound. Case is not included, but we can supply one.
