S/N: L90538, built during 1965 at the Fender Fullerton, California plant.
The Fender Jazzmaster appeared in 1958 aiming to attract jazz guitarists from Gibson, but it was never able to do this. Instead, its popularity was mostly with surf and rock players.

This example was built during 1965 and carries an L-Series neck plate and serial number. The L-Series plates appear around the time that CBS purchased the Fender corporation, and while CBS may have had legal ownership of Fender, this hadn't impacted any of the day to day operations so the guitars are generally considered Pre-CBS.

This guitar is in good largely original condition and has just been set up in our shop. The frets are clean and have been dressed in the past and polished, and the board was planed at some point. The finish shows usual buckle rash on the back and wear around the edges. The Fender decal is in good condition and nearly complete; as these were originally applied over the lacquer finish, it's common for them to have dried out, flaked and chipped off over time. The volume and tone knobs are as worn as I've ever seen, and metal inserts have been added to the centers. A period hardshell case is included.
