Guild was from its start one of the best sources for quality archtop guitars, as many of its staff craftsmen moved from the Epiphone company as it spun down prior to its purchase by Gibson.

Guitars like this 1974 Guild X-500 Archtop are excellent examples of the work Guild was doing. Very well built from quality materials, these instruments were at work day and night and are every bit as good as the better-known brands.

Featuring a carved spruce top and flame maple for the back and sides, the Guild X-500 archtop carries two Guild humbuckers with the traditional individual volume and tone / pickup selector wiring. Additionally, at this particular point Guild had put the pickup selector on the cutaway 'horn' and added a master volume control. The maple neck has an ebony fingerboard with split-block mother of pearl inlays with V-shaped abalone insets. The classic Guild sheild is on the bound headstock. All hardware is gold plated. As expected on a guitar oriented towards jazz, the bridge is rosewood.

This guitar is in all original and very good condition. The pickguard is unbroken and all the controls have their Guild logo inserts. There is moderate to heavy fret wear, especially in the lower positions. THe finish is in good shape with some minor denting. Overall, it's been played and used, but taken good care of.

Currently, this guitar is strung with flatwounds. A black arched hardshell case is included.
