S/N: 166, built during 1994 in Madrid, Spain.
Ignacio M. Rozas worked under for decades under Jose Ramirez II and Manuel Contreras, and for himself from 1987 till his retirement in early 2008. Rozas classical guitars are harder and harder to find, but a treat when they appear.

Madrid is a wonderful place for finding hand-built classical guitars. There are many small shops with the luthiers working in plain view and is a great city for the guitar (and food!) tourist.

Rozas apprenticed as a cabinet maker in Madrid, and was hired by Jose Ramírez III and Palino Bernabe. He worked with Ramirez for ten years, from 1959 to 1969, and then for Manuel Contreras for 17 years. Finally in 1987 he set up his own shop, with a year off in 2001. From 2002 to 2008, he shared his shop with Mariano Tezanos and Teodoro Perez, two other Madrid luthiers who had also worked for Ramírez.

This concert grade Ignacio M. Rozas classical guitar was built during 1994, with a cedar top, nicely figured Brazilian Rosewood back, sides, bridge and headplate, and a Spanish Cedar neck with Ebony fingerboard. It was purchased by Nick Walton directly from Ignacio Rozas' workshop at Calle Mayor 66 in Old Madrid.

Nick Walton took up the Classical Guitar at 11 years and studied with Canada's first Classical guitar teacher, Eugene Lucas and subseqently studied with Arnold Rose, a student of the famous Ida Presti.

In later years Nick worked with Carl Van Feggelen at the Royal Conservatory, and attended Master Classes with Aliro Diaz at the Banff School of Fine Arts.

Maestro Diaz invited Nick to study privately in Rome. These studies were sponsored via the Canada Council and there were further Canada Council grants to study in London with John W. Duarte and John Williams. As a soloist, Nick played across Canada and Europe for a number of Guitar Societies, Universities and Canadian Embassies and was a regular guest on the CBC.

This guitar has been used as Rozas intended, and was used in many professional engagements. It has normal wear for such use, including fingermarks near the soundhole and bridge. There are no cracks or repairs. Scale length is 650mm, and the nut width is 52mm.

The tone of this fine guitar is fully developed. As one would expect from a concert grade instrument, it is quite loud, projects well, and delivers clear, well defined and separated notes at all volumes.

A browh hardshell case is included, with one latch missing.
