Sergei de Jonge has been a fixture on the Canadian lutherie scene for decades, and now works from a shop in Chelsea, Quebec.

Seen here is a 2006 Sergei de Jonge crossover cutaway nylon string guitar, built at the Chelsea shop. Based on the de Jonge jazz guitar, this features a single cutaway body with dual teardrop sound holes and a sound port on the upper bass bout. The top is bearlclaw spruce, the back, sides, headplate and bridge are Indian rosewood, the binding is snakewood and the neck is mahogany with an ebony fingerboard.

The scale length is 643mm and the nut width is 48mm.

This model, as a crossover, is aimed to players who seek the responsiveness and expression of a nylon string guitar, but who may be more familiar with steel string guitars. This type of instrument is very well suited to Latin and Jazz styles.

This guitar is in very good condition overall. The finish is hand-rubbed French Polish, a technique Serge de Jonge specialises in (and teaches). French Polish provides a light protective layer to the instrument without significantly inhibiting its vibration or resonance.
