1988 Ibanez George Benson GB-10 (consignment) SOLD

The Ibanez George Benson GB-10 was introduced in 1978 to great fanfare. George Benson was very hot with a string of hits, supported by his unique guitar style, voice and excellent choice of material.

The Ibanez George Benson GB-10 is a small body archtop guitar designed specifically for jazz style performance. It features a spruce top with F-holes and two heavy longitudinal bracing for feedback suppression, maple back and sides, maple neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, adjustable tailpiece, and the pickups are mounted on the neck and pickguard, floating off the top. The two small humbuckers are controlled with a standard pickup selector and each has a volume and tone control. The metal parts have a gold finish and there’s a GEORGE BENSON inlay at the end of the fingerboard.

This example of the Ibanez George Benson GB-10 is in very good condition, with light play wear; with a good clean it could look near mint but aged. The binding has yellowed very nicely, perhaps to the tone of a 1950’s guitar. It pays well and cleanly, there’s room to move the action around at the bridge, and the small body size is very comfortable – and supports the full Gibson scale length of 24.75 inches.

Serial Number: I840855. This serial number can be interpreted in two ways. First, we’ve chosen the interpretation that the guitar was made at Ibanez’s Iida plant during 1988 as production number 40855. However, it can also be interpreted as meaning that the guitar was built at the Terada plant in 1984 as production number 855.

Pricing: $1,450.00 with original brown hardshell case SOLD
