German Guitar Lute 1920's (consignment) No longer available

During the 1920’s, many European countries began to look again to their cultural histories. During the 1800s, the Lute virtually disappeared as an instrument – there were very few builders, and construction methods were lost, though there was a large amount of music available. The revival in the early 20th century produced many new instruments as builders tried to re-discover techniques and adapt to more modern needs.

British Lute by Edgar Light circa 1790 SOLD

Historically interesting and in lovely condition, all mechanical parts are in very good working condition. The gold finish, perhaps a neo-classical motif, is very attractive and quite well preserved. The eight extra tuning keys on the front are interesting; this helps overcome the limitations of many smaller harp-based instruments, which lose strings (and notes) to fit into a smaller space. This idea is used on some modern instruments and components, such as the 5th string banjo capo and the HipShot ™ drop tuner.
