  • Serial Number:... none;  label indicates 1998 year of fabrication
  • Description:... Sergei de Jonge was making guitars for a living before most of us had ever heard the word "luthier",  before you could rev up your computer and order wood over the internet,  before you could buy specialized guitar building tools and jigs,  before there were even any readily available books at all on the subject of guitar building.  He pitched a tent on the beach in the winter and walked to Pat Lister's shop every day to learn his craft,  then he slept on Jean Larrivee's bench at night and learned from the master during the day.  He has a desire not only to build fine guitars,  but the intelligence and creativity to actually push the boundaries of accepted guitar design into new territory.  Here is an absolutely STUNNING sounding example of his work with steel string guitars in the form of a Sitka/Brazilian non cutaway!

  • Serial Number:... factory order number X8561 14
  • Description:...  Gibson introduced their acoustic/electric J160E in 1954.   The fact that this particular instrument has a solid top (later in '54 they switched to ply tops) indicates that this instrument is from one of the first small production runs ... a very early example indeed!  Of course this model was later adopted by the Beatles and utilized for both live and recording,  which I'm sure has a large part in the popularity of this very cool model.  This one has some honest pick wear,  but is "all there" and ready for another 55 years of gigging!
  • Neck:...  1 21/32" wide nut;  bound Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays;  C-shape neck profile;  original no-line Kluson tuners with single-hump tulip buttons
  • Frets:...  heavy fret wear

  • Finish:...  original sunburst finish has lots of wear and checking
  • Hardware/electronics:... replacement knobs
  • Playability/Action:...  current action is nice and low at 4.5/64" treble side and 5.5/64" bass side;  plays fine but would need a refret to get optimum

  • Serial Number:...  00637008 circa 2007
  • Description:...  Gibson based this reissue on the 1942 original issue J-45 owned by guitar expert Eldon Whitford.  Gibson had this instrument X-ray'ed and Cat Scanned to document accurate thickness specifications and then used the same tooling and machinery to replicate this accurate reissue!  I used to play a 1939 J-35,  so I've got an ear for this kind of slope-shoulder and I can tell you that this is one of the few reissues that actually captures that pre-war sound!

  • Serial Number:... 47836 circa 2002
  • Description:... This Vancouver built smaller body Larrivee is great example of comfort and tone in one package.  Slightly smaller than the Larrivee "L" body this guitar sits tight to the waist and helps to prevent right arm fatigue. This is a great instrument for light to medium strumming and finger style playing!

  • Frets:... Medium fret wear mostly on the high b and e strings in the first position.

    • Serial Number:... 292 circa 2007
    • Description:... This very cool flamenco guitar by B.C. builder Jeff Sigurdson features a Spanish Cyprus sides and back and a Swiss Moon Spruce top with a French polish finish. Moon spruce refers to spruce that has been harvested during the lasting quarter of the waning moon during the winter. This is after the growing period has stopped and there is low sap flow in the tree. Moon Spruce tends to be more resistant against moister changes and is stiffer, feeling similar to wood that has been stored for a long period of time and reached a stable state. This guitar has a very crisp note fundamental and wonderful sustain!

    • Frets:... Great shape with very little wear

    • Serial Number:...  08295131AAA circa 2008
    • Description:...  The LGX-SA is a three-voice guitar featuring electric and acoustic guitar sounds, plus the infinite possibilities provided by synth access. The output from the bridge transducer system in the LGX-SA produces six separate signals—one for each string. This divided signal is called hexaphonic and is used to drive guitar synths. The LGX adapted itself to this application quite easily. However, in addition to the electronic modifications, the guitar itself was altered in order to achieve the best possible performance. The most visible difference between the standard LGX and the LGX-SA is in the ebony fingerboard. The use of the ebony fingerboard improves synth tracking. Guitar synth systems in the past were technically complicated and required radical changes in playing technique. The LGX-SA/RolandTM GR-synth combination represents a new standard in user friendliness and performance.  This particular example is in as-new condition with the protective plastic covering still on the cavity covers!!!
