What an honour it is to be able to offer this instrument for sale!!!  This Apitius " Grand Classic " was completed on November 10th in the year 2000.  This magnificent instrument was Oliver Apitius' own personal instrument for the past 5 years.  Well maintained,  it shows some light wear but no major dings or scratches.  As with all Apitius mandolins, it is completely hand crafted in the truest sense of the term.  No CNC milling here.  The top is carved from master grade Sitka spruce while the back and sides are of stunningly figured quilted maple. The slim and very playable neck is carved from curly maple with an even medium curl.  All hardware is gold plated and the Schaller tuning machines are equipped with genuine mother-of-pearl buttons.  Mother-of-pearl is combined with green abalone shell in an elaborate hand-cut vine motif inlay on the ebony peghead face.  The arched ebony fingerboard is 29 mm wide at the bone nut and is sprinkled with small position dots of Paua abalone.  The mandolin is triple bound throughout and is sunburst in a custom,  burgundy/brown colour with a nitrocellulose lacquer finish.  

      Tonally,  this instrument is simply extraordinary!!!  It  has a VERY rich and even response,  typical of Apitius mandolins.   This particular F-style has a sweet,  cutting treble register and a mature, well developed bark in the lower mids that puts it head and shoulders above most other high-end mandolins I have played!    Excellent for both performing and recording,  the Alison Krauss & Union Station band  have been using Apitius mandolins since 1993,  first with Adam Steffey and in latter years with Dan Tyminski as their mandolin player!

    A new Grand Classic currently lists at $10,500.00 USD with a waiting list.  This one is priced to move at only 9,500.00 Canadian dollars (approx.$7600.00 US$) w/case
