Two Romantic Era Guitars – 1840 and 1847 (consignment)

We have a number of historic, Romantic era instruments for sale. All are being sold as is.

Here are another two, a George Manby guitar built in London around 1820, and a Gaetano Vinaccia guitar built around 1847 in Napoli, Italy.



The George Manby

Here is a good English guitar bearing the label: George Manby, London. it has a spruce top with mother-of-pearl dot purfling around the edge and the sound hole.

The Back and sides are Brazilian rosewood, the back having two repaired cracks and one open 3cm crack. The back is loose from the rim in two places. Mahogany neck and head, brass tuning heads with ivory buttons. The fingerboard is scalloped.

The Gaetano Vinaccia

A good Italian romantic era guitar, bearing the original label: Gatenano Vinaccia, Napoli, anno 1847.

Spruce top with two repaired crackes, solidn flamed maple back and sides with some repairs. Ebony veneered neck, not straight with high action, ebony veneered head; brass machine heads with ivory buttons and brass back cover plate. Rosewood fingerboard with later frets, ebony bridge with ivory saddle. Includes original wooden ‘coffin’ style case.
