NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!! Gibson Country Western Model SJ Natural, 1956

NO LONGER AVAILABLE!!! Gibson Country Western Model SJ Natural, 1956

This Gibson Country Western was built during the model’s first year, and is in good playing order. It has had some repairs – it is 62 years old, after all – including some cleated top cracks and over-sprayed finish. The tuners have been replaced with new vintage-style models, and work well. As is typical, the pickguard is lifting a bit. Under the bridge, a sub-plate has been added to the bridge plate due to normal wear. The top is spruce, the back, sides and neck are mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are rosewood. The fingerboard is bound and has dual-parallellogram position markers, as an ‘upgrade’ from more basic models like th J-45.

This fine example of the Martin D12-18 was built during 1977, possibly around May. It’s in overall good condition and most importantly, its has just had a neck reset and full setup at The Twelfth Fret Repair Shop. Consequently, it plays very well and should be ready for years of use. The finish is in good shape with just a few small dings and dents, some of which show up in an exaggerated way in the photos due to lighting effects. The Grover strip tuners are an unusual model, and work well.

New from Paul Beard Guitars in Hagerstown Maryland, the Beard Deco Phonic Model 27 square neck evokes the Art Deco stylings of the late 1920s when resophonic guitars were introduced.
