The Taylor 514ce-N, now discontinued, was a ‘crossover’ instrument, aimed at delivering the tone and touch response of nylon strings to the steel string player. Typically, crossover guitars have a cutaway body, narrower crowned fingerboards, pickup and preamp systems, and lower action than concert-style classical models. Some models have ‘thinline’ bodies as the volume produced by the body is exceeded by a supporting sound system.

Originally designed to compete with instruments like banjos on unamplified bandstands, its somewhat bass-biased tone makes it ideal as a rhythm instrument, while the Mahogany back and sides add high end sparkle for fingerstyle.

The Taylor 610e starts with a classic Dreadnought body design, but uses Maple for the sides, back and neck. This model was built from 1998 to 2017, and discontinued as the 2018 V-Class instruments were introduced. This Taylor 610e dates to the September 01, 2015 and is in very good, clean and original condition.

With a design dating back to 1917, the Martin D-18 Dreadnought has been one of the bases of the Martin line since its official launch in 1931. The Martin D-18 Dreadnought shares a number of core design elements with all other Martin Dreadnoughts, a large body with Mahogany neck. What changes from model to model is the wood selection and appointments.

The Taylor 414ce-R Grand Auditorium Rosewood was launched at the 2016 Summer NAMM show, adding a Rosewood option in place of Ovangkol. Rosewood delivers a somewhat warmer and punchier tone. The design is very versatile, with plenty of volume and projection, suitable for everything from fingerstyle to flatpicking. The factory ES2 pickup system makes it ready to plug in should amplification be required.

Making their appearances in 1942, the Gibson SJ Round Shoulder Dreadnought, and the classic J-45 share much and their differences are largely cosmetic. Responding to the increasing demand for larger and louder guitars at the close of the Depression and start of WW2, the Gibson SJ Round Shoulder dreadnought – the Southern Jumbo – and the J-45 immediately met a positive reaction.
