The Taylor 556 12-string Grand Symphony is now discontinued and replaced by models like the 552ce and 562ce Grand Concert. Still, it shows why Taylor took over the spot for ‘King of the 12-String Jumbo’. The Grand Symphony body shape is a full size jumbo, roughly equivalent to the Gibson J-200 or Guild F55. It provides a lot of output power and when built using a Spruce top paired with Mahogany back and sides, delivers that with sparkle, clarity and articulation.

Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top, layered Copaifera sides and back, Venetian cutaway and the Expression System 2 pickup system the Taylor 214ce CF DLX is a stage ready, reliable and great sounding guitar. The Grand Auditorium body shape is an excellent general-purpose shape. Its width is similar to a dreadnought but with a much curvier shape which changes the response and dynamics. It is equally well suited to finger style or strumming so you can use it for many different styles.

Now discontinued, the Taylor 312 paired the relatively small Grand Concert body design with a shorter 24.875 inch (631.8mm) scale length for a compact, great sounding instrument. This is a fully acoustic model with no pickups. The Taylor 312 pairs a Sitka Spruce top with Sapele for the sides and back, and Mahogany is used for the body blocks and neck. The bridge and unbound fingerboard are Ebony, and the head plate is an Indian Rosewood overlay.

The Taylor 514ce Cedar and Mahogany steel string guitar has been in Taylor’s line since its introduction in 1998. Using a Grand Auditorium body, its pairing of a Western Red Cedar top with Central American Mahogany make it a great choice for fingerstylists. Red Cedar is used on many classical guitars due to its warmth and responsiveness to the dynamic nuances of fingerstyle playing, and is tonally balanced by the articulation, sparkle and midrange presence of the Mahogany sides and back. With playing, Cedar also develops its voice fairly quickly compared to Spruce.
