MORE →The Huss and Dalton TD-M Custom is, as the name suggests, and buyer-customized version of the ‘Traditional Dreadnought-Mahogany’ model, in this case with Adirondack Spruce top and Sinker Mahogany back and sides. The ‘Traditional Dreadnought’ dates back to around 1911, when C F Martin built a number of large bodied guitars for the Ditson company. In 1931, with the need for ever-increasing volume, Martin re-launched the design with then now-classic ‘D’ series guitars. This design has been the basis for many other guitar models by many other builders.

MORE →The Gibson SJN appeared in 1956 as a natural top version of the successful Southern Jumbo, and had the model name ‘Country Western’. In 1962, square shoulders arrived, and the name was lengthened to ‘SJN Country Western’. The model was discontinued in 1978. This example dates to 1964, with the square shoulders and three-point pickguard. The top is Spruce, with mahogany for the back, sides and fingerboard, with Rosewood for the fingerboard and adjustable bridge.

MORE →The Martin D41 appeared in 1969 as a midpoint between the standard D-28 and the top of the line D-45 dreadnought models. Here we have a very nice Martin D41 built during 2008 at the Martin plant in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It has one one small ding in the top but otherwise is in good overall shape. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is starting to sink, which is to be expected on a guitar now 11 years old.
