The Collings 001 Mh is based on a very traditional design that’s been a standard for over a century, and this example is built with Mahogany for the top, back and sides. The fingerboard, head plate and pyramid bridge are Ebony, and there’s a small faux-tortoise pickguard. The neck is a 12-fret design with slotted peghead. This fine guitar was built in Austin, Texas during 2012. Like every Collings we’ve seen, the build quality is exceptional, with excellent playability and great tone.

This Collings 001 Mh is good condition, and we’d rate and price it higher except that there is some subtle finish marking, visible only from close up. From more than a foot away, it’s nearly impossible to see it and doesn’t really show in the photos. It looks as if at some point the guitar was downwind from an aerosol that reacted with the finish surface, causing a slight pitting effect that will not buff out. The entire repair staff have examined this guitar, and agree that the finish looks stable; during summer, we sometimes see a related effect from exposure to DEET-based insect repellents, but those soften the finish. Here the finish has maintained its hardness.

This is a great playing, and sounding guitar and is sold with its original hard shell case.
