Gibson RB-250 5-String Banjo Natural, 1976

Instrument Categories:

The Gibson RB-250 Mastertone was the working-musician’s banjo for decades and offers that classic Gibson sound with the “Snap” to the treble attack that only Gibsons have.

This is essentially the same banjo as the famous Gibson RB-3 without the Wreath inlay. Gibson built a few RB-250 banjos every years from 1949 until 2010, when a devastating flood in Nashville destroyed Gibson’s Banjo and Mandolin facilities.

This Gibson RB-250 Mastertone banjo was built during 1976 in Kalamazoo, Michigan and carries the serial numbers 00201748 on the Mahogany neck. The rim has the Mastertone label but no serial numbers, while the resonator has an interior sticker reading “Union Grove Music Los Gatos Santa Cruz”. The rim is Maple, the neck is Mahogany with a bound Ebony fingerboard.

The Ebony fingerboard sports the classic Bowtie Inlay pattern in Mother of Pearl. The headstock has a small crack at the base of the volute that seems stable. The frets have recently been levelled, and are low. It also features a Flathead tone ring and the original clamshell tailpiece, and there are two Keith tuners installed

The original hard shell case is included.
