The AZ Prestige line of guitars from Ibanez has proven to be a hit with their high-end features, excellent craftsmanship and blend of classic and modern styles. A new offering in this line is the Ibanez AZ2202A Prestige, which is made in Japan at the Fuji-Gen plant.

The Ibanez AZ220A shares many features from the rest of the AZ line, but with two main differences. Most of the AZ line features an alder body but the AZ2202A has an ash body. Ash is a slightly heavier weight wood with a great balance of brightness and warmth and was used on many of the revered Fender guitars from the 1950’s to today.

The other main difference on the Ibanez AZ2202A model is that the roasted maple neck has 22 frets rather then 24. Aside from the fact that there are two less frets to play the sound of the neck pickup will change. When you have a 24 frets the neck pickup is shifted further towards the bridge which makes for a brighter tone. The 22 fret version gives you that warmth for more vintage classic rock inspired tone.

The Seymour Duncan Hyperion passive Alnico humbuckers used on the Ibanez AZ2202A have a really musical balance between clarity and warmth. They have enough output to crunch up an amp but clean up really well when you roll back the volume control and the defined sparkle is excellent for clean playing as well.
