Currently named the ‘Tennessee Rose’, the Gretsch Tennessean 6119 first appeared in 1958, and for 1961 gained the closed, thin ElectroTone body. Chet Atkins had been urging Gretsch to take steps to reduce feedback on their hollowbody designs, especially after Gibson introduced the center-block ES335 in 1958.

This Fender CS 1956 Stratocaster was built at the Corona California plant and unlike the ‘Relic’ versions is the New Old Stock – NOS – form. The Gibson Midtown Custom was introduced in 2011 and built until perhaps 2015 as a thin, chambered flat top ES style model. Though it resembles the ES-336 or 339 models, the Midtown line – Standard and Custom – uses a chambered Mahogany body back with a flat Maple cap.
