Paramount Leader Tenor Banjo, 1924

Instrument Categories: ,

The Paramount Leader Tenor Banjo was produced from 1922 to 1935 by William Lange and company in New York City, and was one of the most popular mid-range, professional grade banjos available.

Here we’re looking at a Paramount Leader Tenor banjo, likely built in 1924 – the serial number is not far from another known 1924 leader, and Paramount was building and selling a lot of instruments at that time. It features Indian Rosewood construction, for the neck, rim and resonator. It’s very similar to the Paramount Style F, but the metal parts are nickel, rather than gold plated. The Page ‘Geared Peg’ tuners are original, and these tuners were used on all Paramount models. The Calfskin head is stamped on the inside, “J J Levert Importer and Teacher Montreal Sole Agent for Paramount & Orpheum Banjos”.

This Paramount Leader Tenor banjo is in good working order, and sports a relatively elaborate engraved Mother of Pearl Bell inlay set. The frets appear to be original and there is moderate to heavy wear in the lower positions though the banjo still plays cleanly.

The original hard shell case is included.
