Roland Edirol R-09 24 bit Wave MP3 Recorder

It just doesn’t get any easier than this. I turned this Roland Edirol R-09 24 bit Wave MP3 Recorder on, hit “Record”, set the input level … hit “Record” again and played for a bit … hit “Stop” … end of recording process.

I then plugged it into my computer (uses the same cable as my camera!), the computer recognized it immediately and copied the file. It took maybe five minutes in total … no software to load … don’t even really need the manual. All computers these days have software to play MP3/Wave files and most have CD burning capacity so in an additional five minutes you’re on a CD or on the net! This is my kind of recorder. The sound quality is stunning … it’s dead simple to use and it literally fits in your shirt pocket!!!

The link above is my first recording on the Edirol, with no EQ or effects added … just me noodling on a flattop for a minute (warts and all) converted to a fairly lo-fi MP3 format. As opposed to a commercially available CD/Audio file, it hasn’t been compressed and mastered, so you’ll have to turn up those powered speakers a bit more than usual. What a great way to capture a song idea and email it to a band-mate … get the group’s sound on your My Space page or record your next club performance!

Crystal-Clear Capture
It’s ultra small and looks like a gadget, but make no mistake — the R-09 is a serious, top-quality professional recorder with time-stamp capability. Capture source material at a crystal-clean 24-bit resolution with your choice of 44.1 or 48kHz sample rates. Record and play back in MP3 format as well (up to 320kbps). Once recorded, files can be monitored through the R-09’s headphone jack and/or exported to a computer via USB.
Microphone Included
To record audio into the R-09, there’s no extra gear to buy or no cables to connect. A quality stereo microphone is built right into the unit, complete with a dedicated input control, mono/stereo selector, low-cut filter, and gain boost. Just point and record! The R-09 also offers a mic input.

More Than Music
The R-09 is perfect for recording live music events, recitals, and rehearsals. It’s also handy as a songwriter’s sketchpad, ensuring that no moment of inspiration is lost. But the R-09 has many valuable uses outside of the music world as well. Students can use it to record lectures. Broadcasters and journalists can throw away their antiquated cassette recorders and use the R-09 for in-the-field interviews — the audio-capturing applications are endless.
