|Comments||From the 1950’s, The Gretsch company had a long association with Chet Atkins, and a number of models bore his name and the ‘Country Gentleman’ label. Later, the artist endorsement moved to Gibson, and Gretsch no longer had the rights to either the name or the label.
With the resurrection of the Gretsch company, many of these classic models came back into production, and in 2002, Fred W. Gretsch joined forces with Fender to provide support and distribution. Quality has never been as consistently high as during this period. And in 2007, rights to the Chet Atkins and Country Gentleman names were recovered.
This 1999 Gretsch G6122-62 Country Classic II is based on the 1962 Country Gentleman model, but without the mechanical mutes (or the legal permission to call it a Country Gentleman). It is in pristine condition, hardly played at all, and still has the protective paper on the pickguard and Bigsby arm.
