G W Barry M-Body Steel String Acoustic Guitar, 1998

G W Barry M-Body Steel String Acoustic Guitar, 1998

This G W Barry M-Body guitar was built during 1998 at G W Barry’s shop in Toronto, Canada. As such, it features Barry’s ‘M’ body design, derived partly from the Martin style body. The top is Sitka Spruce with a paua abalone rosette and top binding, the back, sides and neck plate of Indian Rosewood, with mahogany for the neck and ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. A Fishman Matrix pickup, with no controls, is installed to an endpin jack. Tuners are by Gotoh, and have ebony buttons. The A button has a crack, which is relatively common with these units.

The tuners are quality Schaller models, gold-coloured with faux pearl buttons. It also sports a set of the original Twelfth Fret bridge transducer pickups, mounted to an end-pin jack. Albert J Litto 7 Course Renaissance Lute, 1965

Albert J Litto 7 Course Renaissance Lute, 1965

Here we have an Albert J Litto 7 Course Renaissance Lute, built during 1965 in Kenmore, New York.  This lovely Renaissance lute demonstrates many traditional construction techniques. The bowl back is composed of flamed maple ribs, bent and joined. Inside the bowl, the ribs are sealed with parchment tape, made wet to induce expansion, then coated with hide glue. The water on the inside forces the ribs to curve from side to side, and the hardening glue keeps them in this shape.
