GW Barry OM Bearclaw and Brazilian Rosewood, 2007

Brand:

Instrument Categories: ,

Here is a lovely GW Barry OM style guitar from 2007 featuring a Bearclaw-figured Sitka Spruce top and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides.

GW Barry has been building for decades, including some time working in Jean Larrivee’s shops in Vancouver and Victoria, BC. His work is top notch, in terms of construction and tonal output.

This GW Barry OM starts with the classic Orchestra Model design that dates to the very end of the 1920’s when banjo players were migrating to guitar. Martin was working with Perry Bechtel, a popular banjo player and bandleader of the time, and modified a standard 12-fret OOO model guitar to take a 14-fret neck. This involved ‘squarer’ shoulders and a shift of the bridge, and the outstanding rich and balanced tonal result has made this design popular ever since. This example uses a Bearclaw-figured Sitka Spruce top, with a thin clear pick guard, paired with Brazilian Rosewood for the sides and 3-piece back. The body blocks and neck are Mahogany, and the head plate, fingerboard and bridge are Ebony. The tuners are Gotoh 510 models with Ebony buttons.

This guitar is in very good condition; fret wear is light and there’s one small dent on the top near the lower treble edge. It plays well and has a very good, rich and responsive sound with plenty of articulation.

The original TKL hard shell case is included.
