Jose Lopez Bellido retired in 2009 and was a well known and highly respected guitar builder in Granada, Spain. Guitar building runs in his family, with his older brother Manuel Lopez Bellido operating Guitarras Bellido and sons and nephews having their own workshops.
Jose Lopez Bellido apprenticed under Eduardo Ferrer and later studied under Antonio Marin Montero. He has run his own shop since 1968 and has trained many builders including Antonio Raya Pardo and Bernd Martin.
Bellido used the traditional system of construction of Ferrer, Santos Hernandez, and Ramirez. His instruments are sought after and played by many concert level guitarists throughout Europe, the Americas and Japan.
