Paramount Banjos

Paramount Banjos were built starting around 1921 by William L Lange in New York City, and during the heyday of jazz banjo was one of the most popular and mass produced brands.

William L Lange had been part of Rettberg and Lange from around 1897 when Lange and William P Rettberg purchased the Buckbee factory.    One of their most popular brands was ‘Orpheum’.   Rettberg retired and left the company around 1921 and Lange assumed sole ownership.   Paramount banjos were built into the 1935,  numbering as many as 15,000 during the company’s run.
