VHT Amplification was founded by Steven Fryette in 1989 in Los Angeles, California. Fryette had been working as an amp technician for Valley Arts Guitar, and did custom work for a host of top-shelf studio and touring guitarists.
In 2009, Steven Fryette sold the VHT name, but not patents or designs, to AXL, who continue to market and sell VHT amps. At the same time, Fryette Amplification was launched. Most of the VHT amps are now hand-built in China, while Fryette amps are built in North Hollywood, California.
