Seen here dressed in a classic Tweed is a Chandler Custom C38 Amplifier with matching 2×12 cabinet loaded with Weber 12F125 speakers.
The Chandler Custom C38 head is based on a 5F4 Fender Super circuit, used in the Fender Super amp from 1958 to 1960 and as stock producing about 28 watts. Chandler informs us that the modifications to this design include the ‘Paul C’ phase inverter modification to increase headroom, addition of ‘Fat’ and ‘Soul’ switches and a higher value main filter capacitor. Depending on tubes used, this amp can produce 25 or 35 watts.
From left to right, the amp’s front panel features a ‘Soul’ switch, fuse holder, power and standby switches, ruby light, Treble, Middle, Bass, Vol. Bright and Vol. Normal controls. The Bright channel input follows with the Fat switch above, and there are two Normal channel inputs. The rear of the amp head has venting and a speaker output.
The speakers chosen for the closed-back 2×12 cabinet, the Weber 12F125, produce a brighter mid-60’s tone with ceramic punch and replaces the Chicago Jensen C12Q. Very thoughtfully, the cabinet has a pair of excellent handles on the sides.
This Chandler Custom C38amp dates to May of 2010 with a serial number of 037. It is in very good condition and does not appear to have been used on the road.
The weight listed below is for both head and cabinet. Separately, the head weighs 28.82 pounds or 13.1kg, while the cabinet is 50.6 pounds or 23kg.
Chandler Amps are custom built to order in Media, Pennsylvania since 1999 by JC Stewart, a musician and master electrician. Generally basing his work on proven vintage designs, the amps are individually voiced for each customer’s needs.
