The Magnatone Model 260 was a 35 watt, 2×12 speaker two channel combo-form amplifier built in Inglewood, California from 1957 to 1962.
Magnatone built electric guitars – both ES or Electric Spanish and EH or Electric Hawaiian models – as well as amplifiers, as the Magna company. Some of their 1950’s guitar models, in particular the Mark III, were designed by Paul Bigsby. By 1957, Magna was pushing heavily into professional grade amplifiers that included a vibrato circuit. This included the Magnatone Model 260 and its larger relative, the 50-watt Model 280.
Here we’re looking at a Magnatone Model 260 built during 1958 at the Inglewood Magna plant. It’s in good working order, appears complete and largely original, and sounds good. The speakers are the original Oxford 12 -inch 12K5R-1 models. This amp uses a pair of 12ax7 preamp tubes and for power, a pair of 5881 tubes.
