❌SOLD❌ Mesa Boogie Mark IIB 60/100 Watt Combo Amp, 1981

Brand:

The Mesa Boogie Mark IIB appeared in August of 1980, built till May 1983 and was the likely first guitar amp to provide a tube buffered effects loop.

Hand built, production reached about a thousand amps a year, so while the sales volumes never reached the levels of companies like Fender, the Mesa Boogie Mark Series amps were extremely popular. Ultimately they were superceded by the Rectifier models. Based on the production and serial numbers, this particular amp was likely built around August of 1981.

The Boogie Mark IIB features the familiar single-12 speaker, and is switchable between 60 and 100 watts. Four of the pots have pull functions. The Volume 1 is Pull for Bright, the Treble is Pull Shift, Lead Drive is Pull Lead (ie enable the Lead channel) and Lead Master is Pull Bright.

Mesa offered a graphic EQ withn in/out switch as an option, chosen here by the original purchaser, and while the EQ is fully functional, the tips of the sliders have been broken off. The original speaker has been replaced, with a Yorkville branded Celestion model. For a time, Yorkville Sound was the Canadian Celestion distributor. This amp also has had a pair of tilt-back legs added, which are very handy.

The original Lead – Rhythm footswitch box is included.

This amp has clearly been used as intended, and the creme tolex covering and grille cloth are somewhat tattered.
