MORE →Here we are looking at a Linda Manzer cutaway steel string acoustic built during 1980 in Toronto. It features a concert body using Sitka Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the back, sides and headplate, Mahogany for the neck and Ebony for the bridge and bound fingerboard. The nut and saddle are bone. Schaller tuning machines with ebony buttons are installed at the head, and a K&K pickup set has been installed to an endpin jack. This example features Abalone for the rosette and position markers – a mix of dots and a leaflet with stem. The top has a small thin clear plastic tap plate, an excellent idea that protects the top without hiding it.

MORE →The Martin D41 appeared in 1969 as a midpoint between the standard D-28 and the top of the line D-45 dreadnought models. Here we have a very nice Martin D41 built during 2008 at the Martin plant in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. It has one one small ding in the top but otherwise is in good overall shape. The nitrocellulose lacquer finish is starting to sink, which is to be expected on a guitar now 11 years old.

MORE →The Larrivee OM 09K is the Koa version of the normally Rosewood bodied OM-09 Artist model, based on the classic Orchestra Model design dating back to the late 1920s. This body design originated with Martin, and is very similar to the 000 models, but the OM has a longer scale length – 25.5 inches compared to the 000’s 24.9 inches. This increases brightness, clarity and volume. The OM body also produces a well balanced tonal representation throughout the spectrum.

MORE →Sometimes we run into guitars that are just spectacular in every way. This Martin D-42 Custom Koa is one such guitar. This guitar is visually stunning and has far more than just good looks. It plays very well, is extremely responsive with a full, rich and sparkling tone, and it’s quite light. A classic C F Martin logo is also executed in Abalone. The fingerboard and bridge features a classic Snowflake motif, again in Abalone.
