❌SOLD❌ Arthur Hansel Steel String Guitar Natural, 1952

Here’s a piece of Canadian musical history – an Arthur Hansel steel string guitar built in Toronto during February 1952 and restored by Bruce Dowd. Arthur Hansel immigrated to Canada from Germany during the early 1930s with the name ‘Hensel’ and was trained as a cabinetmaker and instrument builder. By 1936, he was listed in the Toronto Telephone Directory as either ‘Hansel’ or ‘Hansell’.

❌SOLD❌ Guild Bluegrass F47 Steel String Acoustic Natural, 1972

❌SOLD❌ Guild Bluegrass F47 Steel String Acoustic Natural, 1972

Introduced in 1963, the Guild Bluegrass F47  model was aimed at the exploding folk and bluegrass boom. In 1966, production moved from Hoboken NJ to Westerly RI.  In 1972, the year this guitar was built, Guild’s President Alfred Dronge was killed in a plane crash and was succeeded by Leon Tell.  The Guild Bluegrass F47, here seen as a one-owner-since-new 1972 model, is based on what’s currently referred to as a ‘Grand Orchestra’ body shape, with solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides.

Eastman MD605 A Style Mandolin, Classic Finish

Eastman MD605 A Style Mandolin, Classic Finish

The Eastman MD605 represents great value in a quality A-Style mandolin, built with solid woods and wrapped in a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Introduced in 1905 and based on Orville Gibson’s patent merging violin family techniques with guitar and mandolin construction, the A-Style mandolin has a distinctive teardrop shape and a carved top and back, with either F holes or an oval hole; the F hole provides somewhat more top end. Compared to the F style often seen in bluegrass bands, the A Style body shape has more pronounced midrange and fundamental, and a less percussive attack.

❌SOLD❌ Martin CS 00028 Adirondack and Cocobolo, 2017

❌SOLD❌ Martin CS 00028 Adirondack and Cocobolo, 2017

From the Custom Shop, here’s a very nice Martin CS 00028 featuring an Adirondack Spruce top paired with Cocobolo for the sides, back and head plate. Martin’s Style 28 was introduced in 1870 and the 000 body size appeared in 1902, with one 000-28 built that year. These had 12-fret necks until 1933, with the change to 14-fret necks spurred by the great banjoist migration that began in the closing years of the 1920s.
