❌SOLD❌ Schreiner Swan Neck Baroque 13-Course Theorbo Lute, 1996

Here’s an unusual rarity – a thirteen course, Michael Schreiner Swan Neck Baroque Theorbo Lute based on a 1730 design and built during 1996 in Toronto. The Schreiner Swan Neck Baroque Theorbo Lute perhaps presages the harp guitars that appeared in the early part of the 20th century. It combines the melodic and chordal capabilities of the Lute (or guitar) with a set of long, unfretted strings tuned to progressively lower pitches.

Roosebeck 5 Course Baroque Guitar, Lacewood

Roosebeck 5 Course Baroque Guitar, Lacewood

The Roosebeck 5-course Baroque guitar is based on historic instruments, and is built using materials not covered by CITES export restrictions. The top is Spruce, the body and neck are a combination of light-coloured Lacewood and darker Sheesham. Lacewood is a term used for a variety of woods but often Roupala Brasiliensis, while Sheesham is Dalbergia Sissoo, also known as North Indian Rosewood.  On some versions of this instrument, Mid-East has used Walnut in place of Sheesham.

❌SOLD❌ Michael Schreiner Renaissance Lute Maple Cherry, 1980

❌SOLD❌ Michael Schreiner Renaissance Lute Maple Cherry, 1980

The Schreiner Renaissance lute, with 7 courses, is built using largely traditional patterns and materials – in this case, the top is Spruce, the ribs are alternating Flame Maple and Cherry, with the neck being a light wood wrapped with Cherry, and topped with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The head is constructed of Maple, with Rosewood friction pegs. The bridge, basically a tie block, is made of Cherry. The frets are traditional knotted gut, but the strings are a modern nylon set with metal wound strings used in the bass courses.
