The Gibson Les Paul Studio line delivers all the core features of a Les Paul at a lower price, and this is largely achieved by reducing decoration. The body and neck are not bound, and the Maple top is a ‘B’ grade, which is a visual rating (and it should be noted that many historic ‘Gold Top’ models also used Maple of this grade). However, there’s no skimping on the hardware.

The Gibson SG Standard first appeared in 1961 as a radical update to the Les Paul model, and bore the Les Paul name until 1963. This change had two drivers – one, Les Paul himself was not overly fond of the design, and his endorsement association with Gibson was coming to an end, partly due to complications with his divorce from Mary Ford. With the change in name, the Les Paul models disappeared from production until 1968, its resurgence sparked by the combination of that guitar and Marshall stacks as used by British blues-influenced players.

The original Michael Messer Pod case – soft sided with dense foam – is included. Michael Messer is a well known English guitarist, who has over the years focused on steel and slide guitars. Here we’re looking at a Deering John Hartford Radiused Fingerboard 5-string banjo, built during 2010 at the Deering shop in Spring valley, California. This model combines a Grenadillo tone ring with a Violin grade 3-ply Maple rim, Flame maple neck with bound Ebony fingerboard, and flame Maple for the resonator. The instrument has a Walnut stain and a Satin finish.

Here’s one of the rarest of all Gibson guitars – the Gibson Moderne, designed and registered in 1958 but not put into production until 1982! The Gibson Moderne, however, existed only in design or a vanishingly small number of prototypes – which did in fact vanish. The Moderne was a thing of legend until 1982, with the introduction of the ‘Heritage’ series and the Gibson Moderne Heritage, built as the originals were, of Korina or African Limba (technically named Terminalia Superba).

The National El Trovador goes back to the 1930’s wood bodied, single cone resophonic guitars by National, and this one comes with a HotPlate installed! The El Trovador uses a Mahogany laminate for the body and solid Mahogany for the neck, with a bound Ebony fingerboard. The peg head is slotted, which increases the pressure of the strings on the nut while reducing the required tip-back angle of the head.
