❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Country Club G6196TSP-2G Archtop Smoke Gray and Violet, 2010

The Gretsch Country Club appeared in 1954 as one of Gretsch’s early electric guitars and targeted at the higher end jazz player needing a full size, 17 inch body and solid Spruce top. This model was in production until Gretsch folded in 1981, reappeared between 1995 and 1999 as a US built reissue, and again since 2001 as a pro-line model, Made in Japan by Terada. Modern Country Club production no longer has the solid Spruce top – like other pro-line hollow body Gretsch models, the body is now built of laminate Maple.

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Chet Atkins 6122 Country Gentleman Thinline Archtop Walnut, 1963

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Chet Atkins 6122 Country Gentleman Thinline Archtop Walnut, 1963

Here we’re looking at a Gretsch Chet Atkins 6122 Country Gentleman built during 1963, the same year as Harrison’s. This fine example is in very good condition, and is original except for the addition of a Gibson style, gold plated tune-o-matic bridge in place of the rocking bar bridge. The finish is worn on the neck where it’s been played – the frets are original and have expected wear – but the guitar has been well cared for and the finish is in overall good condition.

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, 1967

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, 1967

Here we have an almost all original Gretsch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman. Its serial number is 37714, and that’s a date coded serial – the first two or three digits are Month and Year, though there’s no digit for ‘decade’. This serial could indicate a 1959 model, but at that point, the 6122 was a single-cutaway model. The number appears again for March, 1967, which corresponds with the construction, components and features of this example. This guitar is ‘almost’ all original – when shipped from Gretsch, it would have had a Rocking Bar Bridge.

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Country Club G6196TCG Cadillac Green, 2005

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Country Club G6196TCG Cadillac Green, 2005

The Gretsch Country Club, model G619x, appeared in 1954 as a rebrand of the ‘Electro II’, itself built from 1951 to 1953. There were three ‘619x’ versions and the ‘x’ indicated the colour. 6192 was sunburst, 6193 natural or Blonde and 6196 the Cadillac Green finish seen here. Intended to sit at the top of the Gretsch line, this model aimed to convert ‘classic’ archtop players so the top was carved Spruce, rather than laminated Maple, often used for feedback rejection.

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Country Club 6195 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1960

❌SOLD❌ Gretsch Country Club 6195 Archtop Electric Sunburst, 1960

This 1960 model Gretsch Country Club, with the trestle braced thinner body. The serial number grouping indicates an early part of the year, though the dates are not certain. There is some uncertainty as to the model number, because the stamp on the label is very faded. At this point, the Country Club used the designation 619x, with the ‘x’ indicating the finish colour. The most common variations are 6192 (sunburst), 6193 (natural) and 6196 (Cadillac Green). We read the last digit of the label as a 5, which can mean a custom order.
