❌SOLD❌ Bourgeois Aged Tone Mahogany D Steel String Guitar NOS 2013

❌SOLD❌ Bourgeois Aged Tone Mahogany D Steel String Guitar NOS 2013

Here, we have a Bourgeois Aged Tone (AT) Mahogany D, built during 2013 at the Lewiston, Maine shop pairing an Adirondack Spruce top with tropical Mahogany for the back, sides and neck, with Ebony for the bridge and unbound fingerboard. The head plate is Indian Rosewood and carries a Bourgeois logo in Mother of Pearl, and the tail wedge is Ziricote.   Waverly open gear tuning machines are the only metal parts.   Fossilized mammoth ivory is used for the nut and saddle.   Hot Hide Glue is used in the construction, which contributes to the ‘Vintage’ tone and also makes certain repairs much easier.

❌ SOLD ❌ Bourgeois Slope D Adirondack Sunburst 2009

❌ SOLD ❌ Bourgeois Slope D Adirondack Sunburst 2009

The Bourgeois Slope D is based on the large dreadnought body size, but with rounded or ‘Sloped’ upper bouts. The shape is similar to the original “Extra Large” dreadnought guitars made by C F Martin for the Ditson company from 1916 to 1930. Gibson also used the slope-shoulder form on many of their instruments, including the iconic J-45. However, during the 1960’s many of those models shifted to square shoulders to reflect market demand.

Bourgeois guitars also tend to have relatively high neck angles, so there is more saddles exposed. In the short term, this means a bit more volume from the steeper angle of the string back to the pin. In the long term, it means that the guitar isn’t likely to need a neck reset for quite some time. Most steel string guitars will over time require a reset, and this can be an expensive proposition. Bourgeois seems to be taking a longer view with the higher angle.

❌SOLD❌ Bourgeois Slope D Steel String Sunburst, 2003

❌SOLD❌ Bourgeois Slope D Steel String Sunburst, 2003

The Bourgeois Slope D draws from the classics – the slope, or round shouldered dreadnought guitars introduced in the late 1930’s by Gibson and to some degree the earlier Ditson Martins. Many of Gibson’s J sized models – the J-35 and iconic J-45 used this body design. Bourgeois takes the idea and executes it flawlessly with the highest quality materials.
This Bourgeois Slope D was built during 2004 in Lewiston, Maine, and features a Sitka Spruce top with a sunburst finish. The sides, back and neck are mahogany, with an ebony fingerboard and bridge.
