Nechville Leon Hunt Phantom Flame Maple, 2013 / *No Longer Available*

The Nechville Leon Hunt Phantom Model, while not a ‘formal’ Nechville model, is based on the Nechville Phantom XXV (Phantom 25). It uses all the Nechville Phantom elements plus very highly figured maple for the neck and resonator (rather than the stock figured walnut construction), with a slight amber tint to the finish. These spectacular banjos are based closely on the Nechville banjo made for Leon Hunt.

This Cervantes Rodriguez PE from the Studio Series is built with Palo Escrito for the sides, back and headplate. Solid Red Cedar is used for the top and Spanish Cedar for the neck and an ebony fingerboard. This is a superb, handmade guitar built and fan-braced in the traditional style of Manual Rodriguez II, with a smooth and balanced tone.

Here is another rarity – an 1840’s Martin & Coupa guitar, built in Nazareth PA for John Coupa at 385 Broadway (Upstairs!) in New York. It is extraordinary that an instrument like this Martin & Coupa guitar could be in all original and playable condition, complete with its original “coffin” case, over 160 years after its production! To give a little chronological perspective, this instrument would have been delivered to its first owner by stagecoach and riverboat 20 years before the American Civil War.
