❌SOLD❌ Tony Duggan Smith Mystic Short Scale Archtop Blonde, 1995

Here is a treat – a Tony Duggan Smith Mystic, a short scale (21.89 inch, 556mm) cutaway archtop built during 1995 at Duggan-Smith’s Toronto shop. Tony Duggan-Smith has been around the Canadian arts music and film scene for decades.  He was a member of the Pukka Orchestra and Neotone after apprenticing with Jean Larrivee and leading the repair department at Ring Music, then run by Bill Wagner and Michael McLuhan (yes that McLuhan.),  and has also over a decade of work in the film industry.  One of his current projects is the Apprehension Engine, an instrument specifically designed for use in horror films.

❌SOLD❌Fender Jazz Bass Natural, 1973

❌SOLD❌Fender Jazz Bass Natural, 1973

The Fender Jazz Bass made its appearance in 1960 as Fender’s second major bass design after the two versions of the Precision Bass.  Targeted towards the Jazz players still using acoustic instruments, the Jazz Bass offered a punchy, focused tone and a narrow fast fingerboard. Offered with either a Maple or Rosewood fingerboard, this instrument was built until 1981 when it was replaced by the Standard Jazz Bass. The Fender Jazz Bass uses the same proven and highly reliable design concept as other Fender instruments – a Maple neck bolted to an Ash or Alder body.

❌SOLD❌ Maton MS500 Solidbody Electric Guitar Dark Green, 2001

❌SOLD❌ Maton MS500 Solidbody Electric Guitar Dark Green, 2001

In North America, guitars like the Australian-built Maton MS500 Mastersound are fairly rare, though they are common in their home countries. This is often due to three factors, none of which reflect quality – distance (shipping costs), import duties and distribution chains. Here we’re treated to a Maton MS500 solidbody electric, built during 2001 at the Maton shop in Box Hill, Victoria, Australia – near Melbourne and Port Phillip Bay. Like other Maton products we’ve seen, it is well thought out, very well built and finished, and incorporates indigenous wood species wherever possible.

Here’s a PRS Custom 22 20th Anniversary Special from 2005 with Stop Tail bridge, Dragon II pickups and a Brown Burst finish! The PRS Custom 22 is based on the early Dragon series, with a distinctly elegant double cutaway, carved Figured Maple on Mahogany body. The set neck is Mahogany with a Rosewood fingerboard, and here there’s no separate head plate. For the year 2005, the PRS Custom 22 20th Anniversary added a new Abalone bird inlay that soars across the fingerboard, and a 20th Anniversary truss rod cover.

❌SOLD❌ Rickenbacker 4003SPC Tuxedo White Star Bass, 1987

❌SOLD❌ Rickenbacker 4003SPC Tuxedo White Star Bass, 1987

Here is a limited edition rarity from 1987 – a Rickenbacker 4003 Tuxedo White Star bass, one of approximately 120 built during that year; some reports say 100 were built. The model 4003 bass was introduced in 1979 to improve the model 4001 and in particular to strengthen the dual truss rods for use with round wound strings. The Rickenbacker 4003 Tuxedo or White Star bass is based closely on the 4003 and was built only during 1987.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Jazz Bass Natural Refinish, 1966

❌SOLD❌ Fender Jazz Bass Natural Refinish, 1966

Here is a Fender Jazz Bass Natural refinish, with body and neck built towards the end of 1965 but assembled, wired and sold in early 1966. The Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960, as Leo Fender’s second distinct bass after the two versions of the Precision Bass. Targeted towards Jazz players and taking design cues from the then-new Jazzmaster and Jaguar models, particularly the offset body, the Jazz Bass offered a brighter, more focused tone with less fundamental than the Precision Bass along with a much narrower neck.
