MORE →This Jerry Farrell Maple Classical guitar follows a traditional Spanish construction pattern, but with a lovely Curly Maple set for the sides and back in place of Rosewood, and an Engelmann Spruce top. The neck appears to be Cedrilla or Spanish Cedar as used on traditional classicals, and with what looks like Pau Ferro for the fingerboard and bridge.

MORE →Here is a treat – a Tony Duggan Smith Mystic, a short scale (21.89 inch, 556mm) cutaway archtop built during 1995 at Duggan-Smith’s Toronto shop. Tony Duggan-Smith has been around the Canadian arts music and film scene for decades. He was a member of the Pukka Orchestra and Neotone after apprenticing with Jean Larrivee and leading the repair department at Ring Music, then run by Bill Wagner and Michael McLuhan (yes that McLuhan.), and has also over a decade of work in the film industry. One of his current projects is the Apprehension Engine, an instrument specifically designed for use in horror films.

MORE →Here is a very interesting Gerald Farrell 630mm Classical Guitar, built during 2012 at Jerry Farrell’s shop in Hamilton, Ontario where he has constructed classical guitars since 1972. Based on the proven, traditional Hauser design, this Gerald Farrell 630mm Classical features a Spruce top with Indian Rosewood for the sides and back, with Central American Mahogany for the body blocks and neck.

MORE →After our brief break, we’ll start off with a new Bruce Haines classical guitar, using an AAA grade Englemann Spruce top and a lovely Ziricote set for the back and sides. This lovely Bruce Haines classical guitar is built in the traditional Spanish style. The sides and neck integrated via the ‘slipper heel’. With this method, the sides slot into the the heel for unified construction and greater transmission of vibration. The top is AAA grade Engelmann Spruce. The neck and solid, non-kerfed linings are Honduran Mahogany. The body bindings are Ebony with Alaskan Cedar purflings.

MORE →This DK Concertino was built during 2017 and pairs an Engelmann Spruce top with Black Walnut for the back, sides, headplate and backstrap, with Curly Maple for the neck and binding. The fingerboard is ebony, which is also used coupled with Curly Maple for the tailpiece; the bridge is Rosewood. DK guitars are built by Dmitry Kulakov near Ottawa. These unique instruments are visually arresting and innovative, but work well as playable instruments and sound quite good.
