Built in a tiny corner of the USA, this Darren Hippner Romanillos style classical guitar illustrates why its maker has such a good reputation. This slightly short-scale guitar – 25 inches or 635mm- was built during 2012 and no longer appears in his listing of available models.

Here is another fine and unusual guitar, a Kolya Panhuyzen Maple Body Classical model built in Toronto, Canada during 1987. Kolya Panhuyzen grew up around classical guitar construction and worked with his uncle, Edgar Monch, in both Germany and Toronto.
This Jerry Farrell Maple Classical guitar follows a traditional Spanish construction pattern, but with a lovely Curly Maple set for the sides and back in place of Rosewood, and an Engelmann Spruce top. The neck appears to be Cedrilla or Spanish Cedar as used on traditional classicals, and with what looks like Pau Ferro for the fingerboard and bridge.

MORE →The now- discontinued Ramirez Fl1A Flamenco guitar is one of the standards for concert quality Flamenco instruments. It is traditionally constructed with a European spruce top, cypress back and sides and Spanish Cedar neck. Ebony is used for the fingerboard and Indian Rosewood for the bridge, and the nut and saddle are bone. The model name, FL1A, expands to ‘Flamenco’, Grade 1, and the A refers to the material for the top – Abeto, meaning ‘Fir’ but specifically Spruce as distinct from the Red Cedar pioneered by Jose Ramirez III.
