❌SOLD❌ Gibson J-45 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, 1949

The Gibson J-45 Slope Shoulder Dreadnought is one of the classic American guitars, built for the working or aspiring musician. It’s not fancy, but delivers exactly what it needs to. Warm and full sounding, this model has long been a favourite for singer-songwriters. The round upper bouts or shoulders differentiate the design from Martin’s square-shoulder ‘D’line, though the first incarnations of that model also had round shoulders.

❌SOLD❌ Martin Style A Mandolin Natural, 1936

❌SOLD❌ Martin Style A Mandolin Natural, 1936

The Martin Style A Mandolin had a long production run – from 1914 to 1995, and bridged the European and American approaches to mandolins at a time when mandolins were extraordinarily popular. Most European mandolin designs used a traditional bowl back with a folded or ‘bent’ top. In America, however, Orville Gibson merged arched top and back violin design principles with the mandolin layout for a dramatically different instrument. The new Gibson models delivered significantly higher volume and, not having round backs, were easier to hold and play.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J160E Steel String Guitar Sunburst, 1956

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J160E Steel String Guitar Sunburst, 1956

Introduced in 1954 and intended as a companion to the then-new Les Paul solidbody, the Gibson J160E was one of the first mass production electrified steel string guitars. This model was discontinued in 1979, and is occasionally re-issued. One of the greatest contributors to the success of this model was a 1962 model’s appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, in the hands of one John Lennon. That was The Beatles first US performance, and made all their gear quite popular.

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J45 ADJ Slope Shoulder Acoustic Sunburst, 1966

❌SOLD❌ Gibson J45 ADJ Slope Shoulder Acoustic Sunburst, 1966

Here we’re looking at a Gibson J45 ADJ model, built likely during 1966 at Gibson’s historic Parsons Street shop in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It shows a number of 1966 features, including the Rosewood adjustable bridge and a thicker styrene pickguard with a Gibson logo engraved by the fingerboard tag. The original finish has been oversprayed, so the surfaces are quite smooth and glossy.
