G&L ASAT Classic Redburst, 2004

G&L ASAT Classic Redburst, 2004

The G&L ASAT Classic continues Leo Fender’s original design, the classic ‘T-Style’ introduced in 1951. This example dates to 2004 and sports a redburst finish. The ‘ASAT’ name refers to a an ASAT (Anti-Satellite) missile system! Drawing closely from Leo’s classic layout, the G&L ASAT Classic pairs a Swamp Ash body with a Maple neck, in this case with light birds-eye figuring.

❌SOLD❌ G&L L-2000 E Series Bass Sunburst, 2016

Introduced in 1980, the G&L L-2000 bass was one of Leo Fender’s last bass designs.   The first was the 1953 Fender Precision Bass and it’s hard to overstate its influence on how music is presented.  This example dates to 2016 at the G&L shop on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, and is in very good, clean original condition. It plays well, and the finish and frets have very little wear.

❌SOLD❌ G&L SB-2 USA Solidbody Electric Bass Sunburst, 2007

Introduced in 1998, the G&L SB-2 bass represents a blending of Leo Fender’s two major bass designs into what’s now called a P-J configuration. The P-J concept appeared in the 1970’s as bassists, guitarists and third party companies sought ways to extend the sounds of their instruments. For bassists, an obvious step was to give a Precision Bass a Jazz Bass bridge pickup, hence the P-J designation. This setup was immediately popular and has worked its way into many production and custom instruments.

Taking very clear cues from the classic and proven 1950’s designs, the G&L ASAT looks like an ‘improved’ Telecaster. Notably, the ‘Hard Tail’ bridge addresses a number of vibration issues by adding a set screw to the treble side of the bridge housing. This set screw pushes against the saddles, so that once the saddles are properly adjusted, they lock in place. As well, the larger single coil ‘MFD’ or ‘Modified Field Design’ pickups are Leo’s design, combing ceramic under-coil magnets with soft iron adjustable magnets for each string.
