Here is another rarity, a Gibson Les Paul Florentine Korina, Custom Shop built and with two features making it most unusual – the Korina top and the lack of F holes. This limited edition model, which later became the Les Paul ES, featured a heavily rooted Mahogany body and separate top, in this case Korina or Black Limba though many had heavily figured Maple tops. Most of the production had F holes, making sense given the nearly hollow body, but a few like this one have closed tops.
Gold Plated
The Gibson SG Supreme was built from 1999 to 2009 and features a figured Maple cap on a Mahogany slab body, paired with a Mahogany neck and bound Richlite fingerboard. At first, the SG Supreme was equipped with a pair of P-90 pickups, but these were phased out in favour of Humbuckers over the year 2000 and into 2001. In 2002, the ‘Fireburst’ finish seen here started rising from the tail of the guitar, rather than the traditional burst with dark edges and lighter center.
Drawing from the late 1950s double cutaway models, the Gibson Les Paul DC Standard features a heavily figured Maple cap on a Mahogany slab body, and Maple neck with bound, 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard and gold plated hardware. The hardware on this example is gold plated, with Grover Roto-Matic tuners at the head and an ABR/Stop Tailpiece set on the body. The neck pickup is shifted slightly towards the bridge, compared to a single cutaway Les Paul, to accommodate the longer 24 fret fingerboard. A pair of humbucking pickups feed to a standard 3-way switch, from there to a single Volume and Tone control, and finally to a side-mounted output jack.

MORE →Introduced in 2003 and built at the Nashville Tennessee shop, the Gibson Les Paul Supreme is a high-end take on the classic design and features carved, highly figured Maple top and back. The construction of the Gibson Les Paul Supreme differs from the standard Les Paul though it uses the same basic materials as the Les Paul Custom. The carved top and back set are bookmatched, highly flamed Maple, on either side of a chambered Mahogany core.
