❌SOLD❌ Collings OM2H Orchestra Model Sitka Top, 2008

The Collings OM2H Orchestra Model is a top quality take on the classic OM guitars that date back to the late 1920s, as the great migration of banjo players to guitar began. The OM is based on the 12-fret neck, 1928 Martin 000 body size, which was modified to allow the 14 fret neck that banjo players needed for higher position chording. The upper bouts were ‘flattened’ to accommodate this neck. The 14 fret neck was so successful that on steel string guitars, it completely displaced the 12-fret neck. It’s only in the last few years that builders have been offering 12 fret necks again.

❌SOLD❌ Larrivee SD60 SH Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, 2003

❌SOLD❌ Larrivee SD60 SH Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, 2003

The Larrivee SD60 SH is a take on possibly the earliest Dreadnought sized guitar designs – those built from 1916 by C F Martin for the Ditson company. At the time, guitars tended to be small, with the Parlor size being most common. The Dreadnought was an unusual size for a guitar, but sales were poor, the model was discontinued, and the model disappeared until Martin launched its D size models in 1931.

❌SOLD❌ Collings DS1 12 Fret Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, 2011

❌SOLD❌ Collings DS1 12 Fret Slope Shoulder Dreadnought, 2011

The Collings DS1 12-fret slope shoulder dreadnought draws from the well of the earliest large body steel string guitars, the dreadnoughts built for the Ditson company by C F Martin from 1916 to 1930. Martin made over 500 guitars for Ditson, but the dreadnought was not popular at the time, and from 1916 to 1921, only 14 were dreadnoughts. That changed completely in the early 1930s, with banjo players migrating to guitars; these players needed both volume and more frets, so the Dreadnought design was revived and given a 14 fret neck.

❌SOLD❌ Collings D2H GVN Dreadnought Natural 2016

❌SOLD❌ Collings D2H GVN Dreadnought Natural 2016

Based on the classic square shoulder dreadnoughts that have been dominant since their introduction in the 1930’s, the Collings D2H GVN starts with the standard D2H. This example adds a German spruce top, a “Vintage Now” neck profile and “No Tongue Brace”. The sides, back and headplate are Indian Rosewood, with Mahogany for the body blocks and neck and Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge. Because it’s an D2H, it has Herringbone top purfling and a ‘zipper’ back strip. Tuners are Waverly open-gear models.
