The Gibson Les Paul Junior DC – Double Cutaway – appeared in 1958 as a modification of the 1954 single-cutaway version. The next modification came partway through 1961 with a complete redesign of the body as Gibson shifted to what’s now known as the SG.
Junior
The Gibson Les Paul Junior was introduced in 1954 as a single cutaway slab bodied design, essentially a Les Paul without the carved Maple (or Mahogany, in the case of the Custom) cap. Intended as an entry level model, it carried a single P-90 pickup and very little decoration.

MORE →The Gibson 57 Reissue Les Paul Junior is a re-creation of one of the popular entry level Les Paul, introduced in 1954. Here we’re looking at a Gibson 57 Reissue Les Paul Junior in a Faded Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Like its source, this guitar is simply built with Mahogany slab body, a Mahogany neck with full ‘baseball bat’ neck profile and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard – the 1950s originals would have used Brazilian Rosewood. This guitar has been played, and there’s an amount of ‘buckle rash’ on the back.

MORE →Here’s a Gibson 1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cut Historic Reissue in TV White, built during 2004 at the Nashville Custom Shop. Introduced in 1954 as a simplified, entry level Les Paul model, the Les Paul Junior featured two woods – Honduran Mahogany for the slab body and neck, and Rosewood for the fingerboard – which until the end of the Junior’s production in 1963 meant Brazilian Rosewood.

MORE →Here we have, in fantastic condition, a Gibson 1957 Les Paul Junior Reissue in TV Yellow – this colour was formulated to help these show up on black and white televisions. The Les Paul Junior was built as a single cutaway, single P-90 pickup, slab body model from 1954 to 1958 and marketed as an entry level model. It was available in three finishes – Cherry, Sunburst and TV Yellow. The body and set-neck are Mahogany, and the fingerboard Rosewood.

MORE →Here we have a wonderful rarity! One of the first Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst models built, from 1954 when the Junior was introduced. Intended as an entry level, student model, the Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst – the only finish it came in – was a bare-bones but high quality guitar with Tropical Mahogany for the body and neck, and Rosewood for the fingerboard; for most if not all of the Junior’s production run between 1954 and 1963 when it was discontinued, this meant Brazilian Rosewood. Position markers are simple Mother of Pearl dots.
