❌SOLD❌ Fender Pre-CBS Stratocaster Sunburst, 1964

❌SOLD❌ Fender Pre-CBS Stratocaster Sunburst, 1964

Here’s something we see fewer of – a Fender Pre-CBS Stratocaster in Sunburst, with a body date of 9/63 and neck date of March 1964. This type of ‘date mismatch’ has been common in some periods of Fender production. The factory would build and finish a larger number of bodies and store them, with the necks built closer to the sale and delivery date. The potentiometers date to 1963.

❌SOLD❌ Fender L-Series Stratocaster Refinish Metallic Grey, 1965

We haven’t seen one of these for a while – a Fender L-Series Stratocaster, built during the transition to CBS ownership. While there is technically no ‘L Series’ as such, the term refers to Fender instruments built from 1963 into 1965, using a neck plate stamped with an ‘L’ as the first character of the serial number.

❌SOLD❌ Fender 1965 Precision Bass Sunburst

❌SOLD❌ Fender 1965 Precision Bass Sunburst

The 3-tone Sunburst Fender 1965 Precision bass with Rosewood fingerboard, is in very good, original condition including both bridge and pickup covers and original case. Pairing an Alder body with a Maple neck and Indian Rosewood fingerboard, this classic bass carries all its original components (except strings).  The original, black rectangular Fender hard shell case is included, and contains the bridge and pickup covers.  This Fender 1965 Precision is something of a transitional model, as it has an Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia sissoo) fingerboard.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Precision Bass Sunburst, 1964

❌SOLD❌ Fender Precision Bass Sunburst, 1964

Introduced in 1954, the Fender Precision Bass was quickly adopted by bass players. It was an elegant solution to a few large problems related to the large size of an upright bass, its tendency to feed back as amplified volumes consistently rose, and the ease with which notes could be out of tune on a fretless fingerboard. The P Bass was compact, lightweight, durable and reliable, would not feed back, and would be precisely in tune with the rest of the band.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Jaguar Olympic White, 1965

❌SOLD❌ Fender Jaguar Olympic White, 1965

The Fender Jaguar appeared in 1962, and while it was based on concepts and parts used on the Jazzmaster, there were a number of design departures. Like the Jazzmaster, the Fender Jaguar used an offset-waist body with comfort contours, and shared the same bridge and vibrato tailpiece design. And, the Jaguar sported the same Rosewood fingerboard, which by this time was a curved veneer rather than a ‘slab’ with a flat bottom.

❌SOLD❌ Fender Telecaster Blonde Refinish, 1964

❌SOLD❌ Fender Telecaster Blonde Refinish, 1964

This Fender Telecaster Blonde Refinish dates largely to 1964, with a 1966 neck pickup and a newer pickguard of the correct white/black/white layering. Long ago, the body was stripped and refinished blonde.   The neck has some lacquer sprayed over the original finish, but this is quite worn and much of the wood is exposed – which makes it very comfortable.  The original decal is in good condition; at the time, Fender applied the decals over the lacquer finish, and many have not worn well.
