Drawing from the iconic and sought after pre-war Dreadnoughts, the Bourgeois Signature D Madagascar serves up a rich combination of tone, presence and volume. Madagascar Rosewood is considered a visual and tonal equivalent to Brazilian Rosewood, though with a bit less orange to the colour. On this Bourgeois Signature D, it’s paired with Adirondack Spruce, as used on most of the best pre-WW2 steel string guitars.

MORE →Here, we have a Bourgeois Aged Tone (AT) Mahogany D, built during 2013 at the Lewiston, Maine shop pairing an Adirondack Spruce top with tropical Mahogany for the back, sides and neck, with Ebony for the bridge and unbound fingerboard. The head plate is Indian Rosewood and carries a Bourgeois logo in Mother of Pearl, and the tail wedge is Ziricote. Waverly open gear tuning machines are the only metal parts. Fossilized mammoth ivory is used for the nut and saddle. Hot Hide Glue is used in the construction, which contributes to the ‘Vintage’ tone and also makes certain repairs much easier.

MORE →The Bourgeois Slope D is based on the large dreadnought body size, but with rounded or ‘Sloped’ upper bouts. The shape is similar to the original “Extra Large” dreadnought guitars made by C F Martin for the Ditson company from 1916 to 1930. Gibson also used the slope-shoulder form on many of their instruments, including the iconic J-45. However, during the 1960’s many of those models shifted to square shoulders to reflect market demand.
