The Beard Deco Phonic Model 27 round neck single cone spider guitar, is a new series from Beard, aiming to re-create the aesthetics of the 1920’s when resophonic guitars were invented. The Beard Deco Phonic Model 27 is the entry point for the Deco Phonic line, and like the other models is available in both round and square neck versions. Construction reflects Beard’s consistently high quality, and the materials are selected to be fully CITES compliant.
Model 27
The Dobro Model 27 and 25 were for a time one of Dobro’s most popular models, though it’s hard to tell which model is which – the designation was based on that year’s price!
Here we’re looking at a what’s likely a Dobro Model 27, though possibly a 25, built during 1934 for Dobro by the Regal company of Chicago, Illinois. The body construction is largely of Birch ply, bound top and back, with likely Poplar for the neck and Walnut for the fingerboard.

MORE →New from Paul Beard Guitars in Hagerstown Maryland, the Beard Deco Phonic Model 27 square neck evokes the Art Deco stylings of the late 1920s when resophonic guitars were introduced. Using a classic single-resonator design, the Model 27 uses Finnish Birch laminates for the body, solid maple for the neck, and Morado (also called Pau Ferro) for the 25 inch scale fingerboard, and ebony / maple bridge inserts. On the Model 27, the top is bound. These wood choices make the guitar completely CITIES compliant.
