Modern
The Bernhard Kresse Modern Classical guitar blends elements of modern guitar building with traditional practices and techniques, delivering a superior concert grade instrument. This example was built during 2003 at Kresse’s small shop in Köln, Germany and features a Spruce top paired with Indian Rosewood for the sides, back, head plate, backstrap and bridge. Mahogany is used for the body blocks and back braces, Maple for the neck and Ebony for the fingerboard.
The Suhr Modern Pro Mahogany features a flame-maple capped Mahogany body and a Mahogany neck with a compound-radius Pau Ferro fingerboard sporting stainless steel frets. This example, built during 2015, features a Bengal Burst finish over a nicely flamed, book-matched Maple top, an H-H pickup configuration using Suhr Aldrich pickups. The wiring includes a ‘Blower Switch’, which takes you to a flat-out bridge pickup regardless of any other control setting. Other hardware includes a Gotoh 510 bridge and Suhr locking tuners.

MORE →This lovely Suhr Modern Custom sports a Claro Walnut top on a Spanish Cedar body, paired with a Pau Ferro neck and Macassar Ebony fingerboard! Claro Walnut is also known as ‘California Black Walnut’. Spanish Cedar or ‘Cedro’ is very commonly used for classical guitar necks, and for bodies on Suhr guitars. A quirk of the Suhr process is that the serial number is established at time of order, sometimes well before the instrument construction is begun, let alone finished. While these numbers are consecutive, that doesn’t always match the sequence pieces are completed so dating via serial number is tougher.
